A civil dispute or criminal case?

Legal Case Studies, News

A civil dispute or criminal case? Police agree they did not need to interview our client.

We recently represented a client who was asked to attend the police station for a voluntary interview.

Our client had retained some property because they were in dispute with a company.  Our client believed the company had breached the contract and demanded a refund of a substantial fee they paid to them.

A report was made to the police by the other party alleging a criminal offence of theft. We were able to explain to
the police that it was not a criminal matter but a civil dispute and they did not have any grounds to interview our client.

Fortunately, the police saw sense and agreed with us. They dropped the investigation.
